Support, Encourage, Enable

'Your fundraising efforts make a huge difference to the level of support that we can offer to local women, and we are regularly amazed at the generosity of the local people and groups who back our work.'

Donations & Fundraising

Slv 8768

Donations are vital to the work of our charity, and there are a number of ways in which you can support our work in this way.  Your donations of money, time and resources mean we can provide more support to local women and often enable us to provide the small touches in our service that can have the biggest impact - for example being able to provide a hot cup of tea or a simple lunch.

Don't forget - using Gift Aid on your donation means that we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give and it won’t cost you any extra.  Simply select the Gift Aid option on our online / text / regular donation facilities or request a Gift Aid form when making a one off donation.

We warmly welcome conversations about how your donations might be used to support our work, for example if there is  specific area of our work that you would like us to use your donation to support, or if you would like to find out where we need help.

A Lasting Legacy - Leaving a Gift in Your Will

A donation to Lancashire Women's Centres in your will is a powerful way of supporting our work, and your gift will enable us to continue our work with local women in the future.

After you’ve looked after your family and friends, you may wish to leave a gift to a charitable cause that is close to your heart. Legacies from supporters make up an important income stream for charities.

The donation can be as small or large as you like. If you choose to leave a gift to us, you will need to give these details to your advisor whilst writing your will.

Lancashire Women’s Centres, 25 Wellington Street (St John’s) Blackburn BB1 8AF

Registered Charity Number - 1100976

If you want to leave a gift to our charity but have already made a Will, it’s not a problem. There are a couple of simple ways you can change it.

1. A new Will

The first and probably simplest way is to write a new Will. Once written, it makes any Wills made by that person in the past void. In fact, most Wills will start by reciting that you’re writing a Will and that you’re revoking previous Wills.

However, if you do not want to do this, there is another way. It’s called a Codicil.

2. Codicils

A codicil is a document used to change a Will that has already been made.

It’s used as a way to make simple additions or amendments to an existing Will like a change in the amount of a gift of money, or the addition of an executor or gift. This is all quite straightforward but problems can occur if you ever want to cancel the Will in the future.

When you cancel a Will which contains a codicil, the codicil does not get cancelled automatically, so when you write a new Will it can create inconsistencies and legal problems. To avoid this, make sure that any new Will clearly states that you are revoking all Wills and codicils previously made.

You can also make a codicil with a Will-writing advisor.

Unsure how much to leave for charity? Here is a really useful gift calculator to help you make that decision.

It’s a common myth that only the rich and famous leave money to charity when they die. This couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Charitable legacies are the foundation for many good causes in the UK and are vital in continuing their work.

Thankfully 74% of the UK population support charities and when asked, 35% of people say they’d happily leave a gift in their Will once family and friends had been provided for.

The problem is only 6.3% actually do.

That’s why, if we all leave some money in our Wills for charity as well as our family, we can make a huge difference.

So, you don’t have to be rich and famous to make a contribution that can make a difference. We can all do something amazing for the world, by remembering our favourite cause when making a Will.
